The Employee Orientation Working Group (EOWG) was created to assist the Finance and Administration portfolio to develop a set of recommendations that reflects the current and future orientation needs of campus. A well developed orientation program will assist in the recruitment and retention of staff. The recommendations will be presented in the form of a white paper reflecting an overall framework for approaching new employee orientation. The approach will include: understanding the current state; identifying gaps in how the University orients new staff to the institution; and, researching solutions to these gaps. The EOWG will meet between 8 - 10 times over the next year with the goal of developing a white paper. During the year, there will be periodic status updates provided to the Vice-President (Finance & Administration) and the Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President (Human Resources) for their review and feedback. When there is seen to be an advantage of obtaining certain expertise, the EOWG may invite other individuals to participate in topic-specific discussions.
The level of support from the Vice-President (Finance & Administration) and the Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President (Human Resources) will determine next steps. At a minimum, it is expected that a business case will need to be developed for each phase of the proposed program.
The Employee Orientation Working Group will develop a white paper that will include:
The committee shall be chaired by the Director - Office of the Vice-President (Finance & Administration). The committee consists of a broad range of campus representatives.
The Employee Orientation Working Group shall meet approximately every six weeks from 9:00 - 10:30 am. It is expected that there will be some small-group work required between meetings and in those cases, the small-group work will provide a status update to the working group at its next meeting.
The Office of the Vice-President (Finance & Administration) will provide secretarial support to the working group.
To facilitate accessible and timely records for this committee, all current and historical information will be located on the following website: http://www.vpit.ualberta.ca/eowg
The Office of the Vice-President (Finance & Administration) will hold official records of the working group's deliberations. The records of the Committee will be subject to the provincial FOIPP legislation and comply with the records retention schedule of the Office of the Vice-President (Finance & Administration).
